On January 12, 2026, the Village of Ruidoso hosted the first major public presentation of the Comprehensive Plan during the Community Charrette. This kickoff meeting introduced residents to the project, the planning team, and the process ahead—setting the foundation for a collaborative, community-driven vision for Ruidoso’s future.
During the presentation, the team shared an overview of what a Comprehensive Plan is, why it matters, the plan timeline, and how public engagement—through workshops, surveys, meetings, and the 5-Day Charrette—will guide ideas and priorities. Community members were also invited to participate in hands-on activities, share big ideas, and get involved in shaping the long-term vision for growth, development, and quality of life

What is a comprehensive master plan?
A Comprehensive Plan is Ruidoso’s long-term guide for how the community grows, changes, and protects what makes it special. It brings together residents, local leaders, businesses, and community partners to define a shared vision for Ruidoso’s future, one that respects its mountain character while preparing for change.
The plan looks at the issues that matter most to Ruidoso, including housing options for residents and workers, transportation and infrastructure, economic opportunities beyond tourism, protection of natural resources, wildfire resilience. It also considers the look and feel of neighborhoods and public spaces.
Ultimately, the plan is not just about growth—it’s about strengthening Ruidoso’s quality of life, resilience, and sense of place for today’s residents and future generations.
